Can wife take husbands money?
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:
Dear brother Burhan, As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

Is it permissible for the wife to take her husbands money without his knowing sometimes, not always. Keeping in mind that the husband is a caring person and provides her with all initials plus easygoing life requirements. But he does not give her cash or pocket money as you can say. He does not like the idea of giving her the money although he can give her. Sometimes
she badly needs the money to speak to her parents who live in another country. She is not a spendthrift and does not spend on herself or her parents or her relatives. She needs the money to pay her fees plus her child's fees as she is attending an Islamic school. He says it is an Islamic school they teach you free of charge which  should not be the attitude towards gaining Islamic knowledge.  My child and I myself use the school transportation also, I need to pay the driver's fees also. He is already to feed and clothe her but draws back when it comes to feed and beautify her soul. Please advice.

Can wife take husbands money?
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: Is it permissible for the wife to take her husbands money without his knowing sometimes, not always.
Allah Subhanah has put the complete and absolute financial responsibility of running a household on the shoulders of the men in Islam. Thus it is the responsibility and duty of the husband to provide for his wife and his family to the best of his ability.

If the husband has given his wife permission that she may take his money anytime she likes, there is absolutely no harm in taking from his money without his knowledge. But if the wife takes the money without informing him or without his knowledge whatsoever, it would be akin to stealing in a way, and would also give rise to a lot of complications in the house.

The best and most righteous way is to inform him, and then take his money; or alternatively get a fixed weekly or monthly income from him to run the expenses of the household at your discretion. In our humble opinion, that would be the most righteous way.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allahs Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
