A. (Dr. Zakir): As far as advantage of performing ‘Umrah’ in the month of Ramadan, our Prophet ﷺ encouraged it. He encouraged the ‘Sahabas‘ that you should do ‘Umrah’ during the month of Ramadan. And our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said,
“…Perform ‘Umrah‘ when Ramadan comes, for ‘Umrah’ in Ramadan is equal to ‘Hajj’ (in reward)…”
(SAHEEH AL-BUKHARI, VOLUME 3, BOOK OF UMRAH, HADITH 1782)
that means if you perform ‘Umrah’ in the month of Ramadan (whether in starting, middle or end) it is equivalent to performing ‘Hajj’. *
*A person who performs ‘Umrah’ in the month of Ramadan will get a reward equivalent to performing ‘Hajj’ but this will not lift the obligation of performing ‘Hajj’ (i.e. once in a lifetime obligation for all adult Muslims who are physically and financially able).
